This is Her Story
Born in the seaside town of Weymouth, Dorset in 1987, Kirsty grew up on the Isle of Portland, with her Mum, Dad, two sisters and a large number of different cats and dogs. She went to school at The Royal Manor Arts College from 1998 until 2003.
School was a difficult time for Kirsty, she had learning differences, which affected her reading, writing, math and PE, had medical issues which meant she missed a lot of her early schooling and she was bullied restlessly.
As a child Kirsty was shy, but tenacious and came out with good results. Surprisingly, Kirsty developed a love of learning and reading, even though school was a difficult time for her. Kirsty attributes this to her Mum, Gill, who never gave up on her and helped with her learning differences, and her Dad, David (known to everyone as Mousse, due to his height!), who worked three jobs to help her have extra tuition.

Kirsty studied her AS Levels and A Levels at The Thomas Hardye Sixth Form in Dorchester, Dorset until 2005. Kirsty's personal journey started to turn around at sixth form and she made friends with people who are still in her life today!
In 2005, after her A Levels, Kirsty moved to Bath, Somerset, to read History at Bath Spa University. After gaining her degree she moved to Southampton, Hampshire, in 2008 to complete her Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Secondary History. Then in 2009 she read Masters History, also at the University of Southampton. Kirsty started her first teaching job in 2011.
Kirsty was a History Teacher for 15 years, and in that time she taught at three different schools and became a Head of History, Head of Academic Enrichment, Charity Lead and Diversity Lead.
Teaching was Kirsty's dream job and she loved every single day working with her students to improve their learning and to pass on the passion of her first love, history.
Sadly, she developed a chronic illness linked to contracting Long Covid in 2021, which meant she had to leave the job she loved so much.

However, she found a new love in writing. Her first book, A Princess on Her Own Terms was published in 2025 and Kirsty has been a member of The Society of Authors since 2025.
Kirsty now lives in Southampton with her elder sister, and her cats. She loves to travel, volunteer with young people and of course reading!
Since being published Kirsty has won The Open Book Awards: One to Watch of 2025 and the Silver Award from Literary Titan. Kirsty also received an honorable mention in the Children's Book Category of the London Book Festival Awards, 2026.
